Steel Toe vs Composite Toe Safety Boots
Both types pass the same safety tests: 200 joules of impact and 15kN of compression. The difference is in the feel and where you work.
- Steel toe work boots are the traditional heavy-duty choice for construction, groundworks and industrial sites, with a slimmer toe box and usually a slightly lower price.

Safety Boot Ratings Explained
Every boot in this range is rated to EN ISO 20345. Here’s what the codes mean:
- S1P: toe protection, anti-static, energy-absorbing heel and penetration-resistant midsole. Good for dry, indoor work.
- S3: everything in S1P, plus a water-resistant upper and a cleated sole. The go-to for most building sites.
- S5: rubber or polymer safety wellingtons with a penetration-resistant midsole. See our safety wellingtons.
- S7: S3 protection with a fully water-resistant boot, for the wettest conditions.
- SR / SRC: tested for slip resistance on wet and oily floors.
