Safety Knee Pads to Protect Your Knees at Work
- by Cathy Houghton
When it comes to field work, it is incredibly important to offer your knees the best possible protection. If your knees regularly take some hammering during your workday, you need to protect them with high-quality knee pads that fit perfectly and comfortably.
Let’s take a look at things that you should keep in mind when choosing a pair of knee pads. These will include factors regarding the perfect fit, the type of work you do, and different features that kneepads typically have. You should take into consideration the things you can do to increase the lifespan of your kneepads.
Choose Kneepads that Fit
If you already have a pair of trousers that you intend to use with your kneepads, make sure that the kneepads you choose work with your trousers. This is because the kneepad pockets may not be able to accommodate your knee pads.
When you try on new trousers with your knee pads, make sure that the trousers fit when you kneel as well. Trousers that fit when you are standing up may not necessarily be comfortable when you are kneeling, especially when you are wearing your kneepads.
If your kneepads are not comfortable when you are wearing it with your work trousers, consider changing either your kneepads or your trousers. Try on different pairs until you are completely satisfied and comfortable.
Type of Work
The time you spend on your knees during the day is significant when determining what type of kneepads you should buy. For example, if you only kneel occasionally a light, type 2, level 0 knee pad will be sufficient. This is because the kneepad won’t bother you when you are sitting, standing, or walking.
If you spend a lot of time on your knees, consider getting heavy-duty kneepads with shock-absorbing features. Even though these kneepads may be somewhat uncomfortable whenever you are up and about, they will offer you the best possible knee protection whenever you are on your knees, laying tiles or installing underfloor heating equipment.
Quality and Design
Make sure that you choose a kneepad that protects the sides of your knees and not just your kneecaps. The kneepads should also be flexible to ensure optimal comfort. When it takes the shape of your knees, you won’t constantly feel the need to take them off whenever you are not kneeling.
Read up on reviews of specific kneepads before you buy. This will give you a solid idea of the quality and long-term durability of the pads and ensure that you get the best possible value for money. Also, choose a durable and lightweight
material like polyolefin. This will ensure that you will be able to use your kneepads every day for a long time to come.
You should be able to secure the kneepads properly in place. You don’t want to adjust your kneepads every time you want to kneel or get up. If you constantly have to adjust the position of your kneepads, you won’t get the best possible knee protection from the pads.
