It's crucial to note that all safety footwear must adhere to the minimum safety standards established by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). The current standard for Safety Footwear across Europe is EN ISO 20345:2011, which was revised in 2011 to enhance safety measures. Under this rigorous standard, every piece of safety footwear must feature toe protection capable of withstanding a 200 joule impact, ensuring the toe region's resilience against potential hazards. All new products are required to be manufactured and certified in compliance with EN ISO 20345:2011, following the retroactive necessity for recertification of goods previously certified under earlier versions.

SB – Basic requirements for safety footwear include a toe cap resistant to 200 Joules of impact.

S1 – Incorporates SB specifications along with additional features like a closed heel area, energy absorption at the seat area, antistatic properties, and fuel oil resistance.

S1P – Combines S1 specifications with added penetration resistance through either a steel midsole or composite material.

S2 – Encompasses the S1 specifications along with water penetration and absorption resistance.

S3 – Builds upon S2 by adding penetration resistance and a cleated outsole for enhanced grip.

S4 – Extends the S1 requirements to include an entirely molded polymer/rubber upper, making the boot waterproof and leak-proof (e.g., Wellington Boots).

S5 – Elevates the S4 standard by integrating midsole penetration resistance capabilities.

Slip resistance ratings

Footwear that passes slip resistance tests will be categorized under one of the following codes:

SRA

Tested on ceramic tiles soaked with sodium lauryl sulfate (a diluted soap solution).

SRB

Tested on steel surfaces treated with glycerol.

SRC

Demonstrates effective performance under both SRA and SRB testing conditions.

Additional symbols/abbreviations

C – Conductive

A – Antistatic

I – Insulating properties against electricity

WR – Waterproof resistance

M – Metatarsal protection

AN – Ankle protection

CR – Cut-resistant upper

WRU – Water penetration and water absorption upper

HRO – Outsole resistance to hot contact

Our collection features various types of safety boots, including safety trainers, steel toe cap boots, and trainers with composite materials. While traditionally reinforced with steel, toe caps may also be made from composite materials such as thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) or even aluminum. Steel-toe boots play a vital role in construction and manufacturing, along with numerous other industries. Certain occupational safety laws or insurance regulations may mandate these protective boots, and compliance certification displaying relevant standards is often required. Keep an eye out for markings on the boot label, indicating the intended national or international standards the boot meets and the level of protection provided against impact and compression.
